For our first meeting of April, we will be welcoming Paul Gerson Unschuld for a lecture around the monthly theme of disease prevention and treatment.
Paul G. He obtained two specialist qualifications, in psychiatry and psychotherapy in 2008, and in neurology in 2009. As part of a Max Planck research fellowship, he also received training in genetic statistics and clinical trial management. During a post-doctoral stay from 2010 to 2012 at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, he learned to apply advanced neuroimaging techniques to neuroscientific questions. In 2012, he set up a research group at Zurich University Psychiatric Hospital. In 2015, he became an assistant physician, with responsibility for the Dementia and Health in Old Age Unit, and was appointed a doctoral fellow at the University of Zurich. Since 2018, he has been Editor-in-Chief of the scientific journal Neurodegenerative Diseases. A specialist in age-related brain pathologies, he works on the relationship between brain function, the link between neurodegeneration and psychiatric diseases, and the factors needed to preserve cognitive and mental health in old age. He was appointed Chief Physician of the Geriatric Psychiatry Service at the HUG and Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the UNIGE Faculty of Medicine in December 2020.
