Help for 150 million people - OneDollarGlasses

Saturday, December 1, 2018

According to a WHO study, more than 950 million people around the world need glasses, but cannot afford them or have no optician nearby. The consequences: children cannot learn, adults cannot work and care for their families.

OneDollarGlasses are manufactured on site using a simple bending machine. Material cost: around $1. The people we train can make a living from the production and sale of glasses. Learn how.

Text

Martin Aufmuth invented the OneDollarGlasses at home in Germany in his basement. In 2012 he founded the German non-profit, EinDollarBrille e.V (OneDollarGlasses).

Goal

Today we are active in eight countries worldwide.

Our goal is to establish basic optical care for everyone.

Finance

Today over 300 people work voluntarily in Germany, Switzerland and the USA for OneDollarGlasses. More than 200 jobs have already been created in the currently eight project countries. OneDollarBrille e.V. Germany finances training costs, bending machines and the project setup from donations. Part of the costs are borne by selling the glasses. Development aid as a social business.

Together with the parent organization OneDollarGlasses Germany, the individual national organizations work under the common umbrella of “GoodVision”. Our goal: to establish basic ophthalmic care for people worldwide.
