Kids in most public schools in Lebanon do not have access to clean drinking water. Rotary Lebanon has therefore initiated a mega-project to equip all of Lebanon’s 1’200 public schools with water filtration systems and WASH training in 2014.

As part of this overall effort, we have raised funds to equip a total of 100 public schools with water filtration system. The project implementation is managed by our Twin club Tripoli-Cosmopolis.

Finance

A first Global Grant for 50 public schools in 2018 for a total amount of USD 179’000. All of these schools have now been equipped, and the project is terminated.

A second Global Grant for another 50 public schools initiated in 2020 with a budget of USD 183’501 is still in the implementation phase.

The funding for these two grants was provided by a fundraising campaign initiated by PDG Christian Colquhoun of the District 1990, numerous clubs of the District, as well as other Districts and private donors.

The Rotaract Genève International contributed with money raised from selling re-usable water bottles developed with District 1990, and attending the 2019 gala.
